Astrid of the blog Of Trolls and Lemons awarded me with the Ancestor Approved Award, and I was very happy and surprised! Thank you, Astrid!

As a recipient of this award, I am to list 10 things I have learned about my ancestors that have surprised, humbled or thrilled me and then pass the award on to 10 other genealogy bloggers I feel are doing their ancestors proud. So here are my thoughts….

Surprised, Humbled and Thrilled

1. I began my genealogy a few years ago. Pretty soon I found that I, as well as many other Swedes, had emigrants in the family. My grandmother Judith had three siblings who immigrated to America and I started looking for them. When I found them, thanks to my research in Ancestry, Emil Johnson and Jennie Amalia Chilberg, well, then it felt very exciting and I was thrilled! Well, the third sibling; brother Johan August is still a brick wall...

2. I got photos from a relative in the United States. It was photos of Jennie Amalia and Emil and his family. I had never seen any photos of them before, and it felt like I really got to know them a bit, in that way, they became more real.

3. I have received, by a relative, my grandmother's and grandfather's old photo albums from the late 1800s and the early 1900s. I do not know the name of all people but I understand that there must be close relatives or even friends of my grandparents. I'm very humbled to have received this album.

4. My husband and I went to the place where my grandfather was born. I had been there once before, with my parents, but that was about 40 years ago ... we found the house and knocked on the door. The door opened by a man. It turned out that he is married to my cousin, who I had never met….her grandfather Carl Edvard and my grandfather Axel Fabian were brothers! …surprised…!

5. I have two blankets crocheted by my grandmother Judith. It feels very nice and thoughtful to have them and when I look at them I wonder how her life was when she made them ...

6. I also have an old sheet from my grandmother Selma. It is carefully patched and mended and it also makes me think about her life…

7. When you do genealogy you can learn a lot about your ancestors ... For example, I found a relative who was a mail robber 1857th. His name was Ephraim Alexandersson Högberg and he was my grandmother's grandmother's grandmother's nephew.
Very thrilled…

8. Every time I read the old church records of catechetical I see many life stories, each with its own history.

9. When I think of all the emigrants who went away, leaving everything behind in Sweden, so I think that they were incredibly brave and admirable...! They probably often knew that they could never go back….

10. Family history research has led me to think a lot about the people who have gone before, they had to work hard and often in poor conditions. I think they deserve to be remembered.

It is very difficult to name 10 blogs for this award, so I close my eyes and pointing ...;)
