Knös family from Od´s parish in Västergötland.

In Od´s church are still an epitaph as son Olof Knös had put up in 1744.
Olof was ordained in 1715 and he has a priest's clothing in the picture.

This is inside of the church.

Knös family consists of:
Börge Knös Olofsson, 1632-1711, he was a forester
his wife Gunnur Boberg Lechander, 1648-1711
and their children:
Olof, 1683-1748, he was a vicar
Petter, 1685-1754, was a military
Britta, 1687-1750.

Gunnur Boberg Lechander is the lady No 3 from the right.
Gunnur is gr, gr, gr, gr, gr grandmother of me.

"Statare" were married agricultural laborers in Sweden who received payment primarily in kind of a landowner ( cartridge). The system existed mainly in the south of Sweden and reached its maximum extent in the late 19th century. Thereafter the system gradually declined until it was formally abolished in 1945.

"Statarna", mostly in large farms in southern Sweden and was employed as a rule for one-year contract. During the last week of October, the so-called "slender weeks", it was possible for "statarna" to move and seek employment in other goods. It was common for "statarfamilys" moved often.
These agricultural laborers were generally viewed as being on the lowest rungs of Swedish society. Their lives were described by prominent Swedish novelists and writers such as Ivar Lo-Johansson, Jan Fridegård and Moa Martinson.

Agricultural workers, milkmaid and barn set men at the barn. The governmental sources who worked on the large estates and mansions, and they got paid for their work. Remuneration consisted mostly of food, shelter and firewood. Before there were dairy milking machines took much time and labor. It was mostly estate-worker women who milked.

To milk the cows were called "the white whip".

Pinocchio Cake

Cake Base:

75 g butter
2 cup powdered sugar
5 egg yolks
1 ½ cup flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
4 tablespoons milk


5 egg whites
2 cup sugar
1 bag slivered almonds


3 cup whipping cream
½ l fresh berries, jam or pineapple

Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
Beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add the egg yolks one at a time.
Mix flour and baking powder in a bowl and stir into the batter and then mix in the milk.
Stir into a smooth batter.
Pour mixture into a roasting pan and spread evenly.
Beat the egg whites to stiff foam and fold back down the sugar and whisk it a few minutes.
Spread meringue on top of cake batter and sprinkle chopped almonds.
Bake at 175 degrees for 20-25 minutes, until meringue has been color and become dry batter.
Let cake cool.
Cover it with whipped cream and garnish with strawberries, raspberries or something else good. (You can also divide it in half before and add the other half on top)
