My Grandparents
Judith and Axel Andersson
married march 27 1914
Gällstad, Västergötland

In this photo we can see Judith and Axel and their children Ella, Sonja and Gunnar.
This photo should be from about 1922.

This is the house that they owned, called Lunden
where they lived with the family as long as they lived.
There were barn with stables and outbuildings as well..
After the father Axel died in 1948,
started his son Gunnar to work on the farm
and worked there as a farmer, like his father did.

Sunday March 25
The Lady Day = Vårfrudagen in Sweden.
Waffle Day actually started as a linguistic misunderstanding - it's Lady Day and in Swedish that's called "Vårfrudagen".
That was quickly transformed into "Våffeldagen" = Waffle Day" which sounds somewhat similar."

Crispy Wafflesmakes at least 12

360 g all-purpose flour
500 ml milk
125 g butter melted
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
200 ml ice cold sparkling water
1 tsp baking powder
Whisk together all ingredients except for the baking powder, and leave for fifteen minutes.
(You might be able to leave it for longer, but I think it's better to add the mineral water when you're close to baking.)
Add the baking powder when you're ready to bake.
Bake, using a waffle maker.
You might have to grease it slightly before the first waffle.
Don't use too much batter, or the waffles won't be as crispy.
It is good to eat them with whipped cream and a good jam or fresh berries.

This is one of the old photos I've scanned.
In the middle is Einar Andersson, born april 27 1894, Gällstad, Västergötland.
He is the brother of my grandmother Selma Målberg.
I don´t have the names of the other two boys.

I found this delicious recipe ..

Macaroni Pudding with Broccoli

500 ml (2 cups) elbow macaroni (not quick-cook)
4 eggs
200 ml milk
200 ml cream (full-fat)
200 ml grated cheese, ideally a sharp, flavorful kind
3 hot dogs, sliced, ( You can use vegetarian sausages)
1 yellow onion, coarsely chopped
200 g smoked ham, diced, ( this may be omitted if you wish.)
1 head of broccoli, cut into small pieces
salt, white pepper

Boil the macaroni in salted water, a minute or so shorter than the instructions say.

Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, a little salt and a pinch of ground white pepper. You'll get a lot of salt from the hot dogs, ham and cheese, so go lightly on the salt.

Fry the sausage slices for a few minutes and set aside. Fry the onions and broccoli on medium heat for a few minutes, to soften. Mix with the hot dogs, the ham, the macaroni and the egg mixture. Add half the cheese.

Pour everything into a buttered casserole, and top with the remaining cheese. Bake at 200°C for about 25 minutes.
